School Budget Project and SIG Talk
As part of our school budgeting class, we were able to evaluate the budget for a middle school and build a budget plan based on school data and student achievement needs. The results of that analysis are below. In addition to my residency experience, I also set up a meeting with Dr. Fuga, the principal at Neal, to discuss his School Improvement Grant and unpack the budget codes and use of SIG money. He spent time walking me through the requirements of their SIG budget and explaining how their leadership team arranged to spend their dollars. This was a valuable learning experience.

Element VB: Conflict management and Resolution.
The school executive effectively and efficiently manages the complexity of human interaction so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.
Discipline and Alternatives to Suspension
As an administrator leading Hillside's ninth grade discipline, I have ensured that our ninth grade has effectively utilized Rebound more than any other grade level at our school. Rebound is an alternative suspension program that give students a place to complete their work and engage in mediated discussions about solving their conflicts while on short-term suspension. We frequently used Rebound as a support for our students and have seen a great deal of success form students returning from Rebound to school. Additionally, I have participated in dozens of parent teacher conferences and mediated crucial conversations between families and teachers about student progress. Throughout the school year I participate in these as frequently as weekly, leading them the majority of the time.

Element VC: Systematic Communication.
The school executive designs and utilizes various forms of formal and informal communication so that the focus of the school can be on improved student achievement.
In addition to the artifacts below. I also spent my first week in residency phone banking all 127 ninth grade families on my caseload to introduce myself and open lines of communication towards their child's success. This has paid off as parents have come to me to collaboratively solve issues throughout the year.
Element VD: School Expectation for Student and Staff.
The school executive develops and enforces expectations, structures, rules and procedures for students and staff.
Student Reflection Expectations and Email Communication
I have created a student reflection sheet for discipline instances that is aligned with our school's PBIS expectations. The sheet allows students to refine their perspective and thinking through their actions before reviewing the sheet with an adult. Our ISS coordinator has adopted the reflection sheet and used it with over 100 students. Additionally, below is an example of staff communication of high expectations that I sent prior to our winter break during the fall semester.
