Leadership on LGBT and Intersectional Equity Work
I was recognized a leader among NC State MSA graduates for my work in developing Bull City Schools United, a non-profit project that promotes equity in Durham Public Schools with a focus on building safe climates for LGBT students of color. As part of this work, I have trained over 1000 teachers and 150 administrators, including our NELA, NCLA, and DPLA cohorts. This project has also brought me into district strategic planning conversations and policy conversations. See this article from the Durham Herald Sun for more context on the work our organization does in district policy. Additionally, I was able to assemble an advisory committee for the project which includes a school board member, a county commissioner, and several non-profit and public health leaders. Please see the embedded video below at 10:35 for a clip of me speaking about the project to our board.

First 90 Days and Managing the Transition
One of the best things you can do as an incoming leader is set a clear agenda for how you will come onboard that allows you to control the narrative on your transition and give yourself learning time to get up to speed on what you must know to be effective. I practiced this during my residency, creating the following plan for my first 90 days at Hillside.
