Matt Hickson is a former Durham Public Schools Beginning Teacher of the Year at Neal Middle School and a Durham Principal’s Leadership Academy Fellow. He is also founder of Bull City Schools United, a project aimed at equipping teachers and students to create safer schools for LGBT students. He has also been a longtime supporter and advocate for Student U Durham, a college access non-profit that partners with Durham Public Schools. He has been a member of Student U's Board of Directors since August of 2017.

Durham Principal Leadership Academy (DPLA)

Matthew Hickson is a DPLA Fellow.

The Durham Principal Leadership Academy (DPLA) is the latest iteration of the Northeast Leadership Academy (NELA). DPLA is part of the larger work of increasing student achievement by preparing principals in high-poverty, hard-to-staff, and historically low-performing schools.
