Standard I: Strategic Leadership

Element IA: School Mission, Vision, and Strategic Goals.

The school’s identity, in part, is derived from the vision, mission, values, beliefs and goals of the school, the processes used to establish these attributes, and the ways they are embodied in the life of the school community.
Building the Mission for 6th Grade
As my first leadership action at Neal, I led our team through a workshop to to build culture action plans and align their team's work to our school improvement plans and the goals of our team. We also worked together to develop a set of values that govern our work so we could build a common foundation.
Element IB: Leading Change.
The school executive articulates a vision and implementation strategies for improvements and changes which result in improved achievement for all students.
Tech Tools Professional Development, Walkthrough Feedback, and Restorative Practices
At Hillside High School, I supported three major initiatives to improve instruction and bolster school improvement goals. I began a series of tech tools professional development sessions which were open to all staff, refined our walkthrough feedback practices to increase the data we collect from classrooms and created a proposal for a long term phase in of restorative practices at the school. At Neal, I expanded this work by building professional development in collaboration with the Friday Institute that built off of our school improvement plan and involved all staff by cascading our technology goals into their PDP's. I used the same process to advance our restorative practices goals, summarized by the primer below. Finally, I have led our school through a process of working with our district CTE and magnet departments to develop the LEAD@Neal program. LEAD is a program to develop in our children and adults skills in Leadership, Equity, Advocacy, and Diversity. Our base document is included below.

Element IC: School Improvement Plan.

The school improvement plan provides the structure for the vision. Values, goals and changes necessary for improved achievement for all students.
MYP Transition and Supporting 21st Century Skill Development:As part of my role in supporting principal William Logan I supported our leadership team's implementation of SIP goals. I led a team to align school practices with MYP standards as part of our schoolwide MYP transition. At Neal, I have been able to align our team around building 21st century skills by leading them through a process of creating an "essential eight" strategies for learners. The materials included below demonstrate these processes.
Element ID: Distributive Leadership.
The school executive creates and utilizes processes to distribute leadership and decision making throughout the school.
